MISSION ORIENTED LIVING

Daniel 1:8-9 NIV

“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel”.

It is not very hard to know a man on a mission. Right from high school we knew friends of ours who were on an academic mission. It was clear by their dedication to studying and by their lives of restrain and discipline. They were often the envy of the class, and we knew without a doubt that they would be great people in society and in the future. Daniel was such a person in the Old Testament.

The mission mindedness in Daniel was very evident by the way he gave up certain privileges and how he disciplined himself. It was a mission-oriented living by every standard, and if you doubted it, then you will have to read the words of Paul to Timothy for a confirmation: “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier”. (2 Timothy 2:3-4 KJV).

The way you live determines what God can do with you. The principles you choose to live by determines how principal you will become amongst your peers; because principled men end up as principal people eventually. Daniel became the prime minister in Babylon for four regimes, and he carried his friends along as well. It was all seen much earlier in the way he chose to live life. I charge you today to arise to disciplined living; become that man or woman God can trust with his mission in Jesus Name.
