Esther 4:14-16 KJV

“For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer, Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish”.

The story of Esther is that of God’s supernatural intervention through a vessel on a mission. I believe that Esther became absent minded at a time of her life. She had suffered as an orphan, she had suffered lack and poverty, as well as other humiliating experiences. Then God opened the door of blessing, as she was favoured to marry the king of the land, and then she became spiritually numb. When we get carried away by blessings and prosperity, the enemy often attacks.

It was in the season of attacks by Hamaan that Mordecai had to awaken Esther from her spiritual slumber, because she made several excuses and reasons why the mission advised by Mordecai was not possible. It was at this point that Mordecai made the mother of all statements; he said “who knows whether you came to the kingdom for a time such as this”. And then the mission mindedness of Esther kicked in. It suddenly dawned on her that this must have been the reason for all she had been through in her life. And then she accepted the challenge.

Like Esther there are so many believers who are faced with all kinds of challenges everywhere; challenges that make people wonder about your God.
