FIRST PROSPER YOUR SOUL
(3 John 1:2 AMPC)
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in every way and [that your body] may keep well, even as [I know] your soul keeps well and prospers”.
The word “soul” is mostly interchanged with the word “spirit”. It is a word that is used to summarize everything inside a man. Remember that God formed man from the dust of the earth, and man laid on the ground as a lifeless being. God had to come and breath into dead man the breath of life, and that man became a living soul. Man once existed in God, and when God made a body for him, He decided to release that spirit man into the lifeless body, and that’s how man became a living soul. And here God is saying that we will only be as healthy and prosperous as our souls are.
As we may know already, all God does begins from the inside-out. What God has not done inside you may never be done outside. God will first build your soul before building you in your health or business/finances. So, when God wants to heal us He would send His word to us. He does not send the word to our wounds or sores, but He sends His word to our souls and spirits. And from our souls the healing is generated to affect the sick part of our bodies and circumstances. If God cannot reaches your soul/spirit, He will not be able to touch anything else in your life. You can only prosper as your soul prospers.
The book of Proverbs 18:14 makes a very profound statement when it said “the spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity, but a wounded or crushed spirit who can bear?”. This means that your healing will proceed from your spirit, depending on its strength. A weak spirit will cause continued sickness and pain, but a strong spirit and soul will terminate sickness in no time. Let’s see how it is presented in other translations of the Bible;
– “The strong spirit of a man sustains him in bodily pain or trouble, but a weak and broken spirit who can raise up or bear”? (Proverbs 18:14 AMPC)
– “The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a crushed spirit”?
(Proverbs 18:14 NLT).
– “The will to live sustains you when you’re sick, but depression crushes courage and leaves you unable to cope”. (Proverbs 18:14 TPT)
-“A healthy spirit conquers adversity, but what can you do when the spirit is crushed”? (Proverbs 18:14 MSG).
Receive grace to build a strong spirit by prayer, worship and God’s word in Jesus Name.
