HOW GOD GETS THINGS DONE
(Ephesians 1:11 KJV)
‘In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will.’
Everyone has a modus operandi for doing things. We have a premise that determines our conclusions and actions. Wise people know how to make proper consultations before they take any action whatsoever. Jesus Himself said “which of you intending to build a tower does not sit down to count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?” He also said “which of you intending to go for war, and does not make consultations whether a particular number of soldiers will be enough to handle the enemy? Lest he begs for peace when the war becomes hot”. (Paraphrased by me).
In the same way, God does make consultations in matters that concern our lives. God does not just go ahead to give us things or to deny some of our prayers for the fun of it, no! Rather He makes consultations. The question is who or what does He consult or take counsel from? Our text reveals that He takes counsel from His will for us. “He does all things after the counsel of His own will”. This is absolutely awesome. I know you may be asking how this happens.
Psalm 139:16 (NIV) declares; “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”. So, God has a book written about each of us, and like a builder He consults this book of His will each time to determine what next happens in our lives. When you pray for certain things, God has to cross check the book of His will for you to know how to answer that prayer of yours because He does all things after the counsel of His own will.
He receives counsel from His will for you. No wonder the word says that “there are many devices in the heart of men but the counsel of the Lord that shall stand”. Proverbs 19:21. Wisdom therefore demands that you line up with His will, and His will is His word. Standing on His word, His specific will for your life must surely come to pass in Jesus Name.
Action Points/Prayer
i. Ask the Lord to cause your heart to knit with His heart so His thoughts can be your thoughts and His ways your ways.
ii. Ask the Lord to fill your heart with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual understanding and wisdom.
Nugget
When you pray for certain things, God has to cross check the book of His will for you to know how to answer that prayer of yours because He does all things after the counsel of His own will for you.
