YOUR MANNERS AND YOUR DESTINY
(Acts 13:17-18 KJV)
The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
I was particularly touched when I came across this scripture many years ago. It was really touching to know that the manners of the Israelites stood as a major hindrance between them and the blessings of God for their lives for fourty solid years. I was simply blown away to know this.
God demonstrated so much grace and favour to the people of Israel by bringing them out of Egypt free of charge, but they could not enter their promised land for fourty years because of their manners. God had to put up with their manner for four decades and for as long as they could not change, they could not move. God was not in a hurry to move them anywhere further until some character issues were dealt with. Your manner is a major hindrance to God over your life.
The reason was that God didn’t want them to turn the promised land to Egypt so he had to wait until they had dealt with their manners. Every land or location will take after the manners or character of those who dwell there. Land is land, but people make it what they become later – whether special or useless, and God was not prepared to have them make the land useless. A land comes under a curse or a blessing depending on what goes on in it, and it is people who determine the activities of a land.
My counsel to you today is simple. Deal with your character and things will move faster in your life. Spend time to build in yourself some quality character and watch God cause a shift in your life. That blessing you are waiting for is also waiting for your character change.

i. Ask the Lord to uproot from you, character traits He did not plant.
ii. Ask the Lord to give you the wisdom to deal with any negative mannerism in your life.
