GOD’S WISDOM FOR RELATIONSHIPS

Genesis 2:18 KJV‬‬
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

People relate with one another based on various reasons. Some people make relationships for sexual reasons, some for financial gains, others for the purpose of connection to something or someone and the list is endless. But God wants you to make relationships based on how it would help you beyond the things that have been mentioned so far.

Relationships should help you first in your relationship with God. A relationship could help your finances, help your connections and all that, but fails to help you in your relationship with God. In fact some relationships even attempt to take you away from God completely. It is not wisdom to keep such relationships for any reason. In the course of my journey to marriage I attempted to marry someone whom I later realized was not God’s will for my life. I reluctantly broke the relationship, and it was very sad for both of us as we cried profusely. But I later heard that the sister in question said that one thing she benefited from our relationship is that her spiritual life improved. That really gladdened my heart.

But I know many relationships that took people out of God before the marriage itself. There are many businesses that have ruined people’s walk with God, and there are people in many lives that have become idols, needing and taking all the time and attention that should have been given to God. Jonathan’s relationship was such a mutually beneficial one that we all should learn from. Jonathan was already a man of the spirit, and when he met David he became greatly challenged. He made friends with David and then gave up his princely rights to David, and never destroyed David’s relationship with God but rather enhanced it. And so David became the king without losing his relationship with God. Stick to relationships that assist your walk with God and keep distracting relationships far away.

Action Points/Prayer
-Lord please bless me with relationships that will boost my walk with you in Jesus Name.
-Give me the wisdom of pruning unnecessary relationships from my life in Jesus Name.

Nugget
Stick to relationships that assist your walk with God and keep distracting relationships far away.
