INVEST INTO YOUR SPOUSE
Genesis 25:21-23 KJV
“And Isaac intreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and the Lord was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord. And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger”.
When it comes to marriage, it will be very difficult to get two people of the exact same spiritual level to get married to each other. However, we advise that they be close to each other in spiritual level. Yet, there are things one party will know that the other has no idea about at all. Isaac was raised in a very spiritually intense environment. The man who fathered him was not Abram, but Abraham; a man God had taken enough time to train and prepare over a twenty-five-year period. So, Isaac was extremely spiritual. Isaac would spend most of his time meditating in the field beside the well Lahairoi, which became his favorite spot. He was trained in the art and act of praying; He was trained to dig deep into the word of God in meditation, but it was not so for Rebekah.
Over a period of twenty years, Isaac made all the investments into Rebekah. He was the one who prayed to the Lord for her inability to conceive. He talked to the Lord year in and year out over her condition, but we never see that Rebekah made any prayer of her own once. That was because she didn’t know how to do it, and she learnt from watching Isaac pray. Isaac must have trained her in the word of God, he must have taught her the ways of God. That was why she didn’t make the mistake that Sarah made; that is, suggesting that her husband takes another wife.
How did I know that Isaac trained his wife? When she got pregnant and the children struggled in her womb, she went to the Lord alone to make enquiries about the situation with her pregnancy, and the Lord told her that she was carrying two nations in her womb. So, Isaac didn’t just train Rebekah to pray, but he trained her to hear the Lord as well. The investments you make into your spouse today will pay off for you tomorrow.
When you invest into your spouse spiritually, you will end up becoming a beneficiary of such an investment at the end. It was Rebekah who told Isaac what the Lord said concerning her pregnancy, but it was the Rebekah he had trained. Be patient with your spouse, be tolerant and model the right things for them to see, and where you have the chance, teach them and it will pay off later. Receive grace to invest spiritually into your spouse today in Jesus Name.
Action Points
i. Look into ways to raise the level of your spouse’s spiritual life.
ii. As a wife, try to model what you want your husband to learn from you. Practice it and he will learn it.
iii. As a husband, model and teach your wife what you want her to learn.
Prayer
i. Lord, teach me the ways to operate in order to raise the level of my spouse’s spiritual life.
ii. Father, help me as a wife to model good virtues to my husband.
iii. Father, help me as a husband to model and teach my wife godly principles.
Nugget
When you invest into your spouse spiritually, you will end up becoming a beneficiary of such an investment at the end.
