YOU ARE A STEWARD, NOT AN OWNER
(Matthew 25:14-15 KJV)
“For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.”
A steward is a person whose job is to protect or is responsible for money, property, etc. It is a person whose job is to manage the land and property of another person. That is who we are to God, God is the real owner of the earth and the things in it, and we are only caretakers for Him. The ownership mentality has made us to both abuse ourselves and the resources that God brings our way. We don’t even own ourselves, because 1Corinthians 6:20 says we should glorify God in our bodies and spirits which all belong to God. Earlier in Haggai 2:8, it is said that the silver and the gold (i.e money) of this world belong to Him, so, what do you really own?
Settle in your mind today that you own nothing, and that all you have was given to you by God. 1Corinthians 4:7 says that there is nothing you have that you did not receive. You received all from God, and if you received all from God then you ought to do the following:
i. Know that God has a share in all your resources.
ii. Ask Him what He wants to accomplish through you with regards to your finances.
iii. Do not resist Him when He asks you to do something for Him with your finances.
iv. Settle in your heart that God does not ask you for anything without a plan to really increase and multiply you. You may want to search the scriptures to confirm this.
v. Be constantly thankful for all that He gives you and for the opportunity to give back to Him.
vi. Ask God to take away all forms of greed, selfishness and covetousness from your life.
Lastly, you will need to throw your hands in the air and let Him know that you are grateful that He owns you and all in your possession.
