WHO OWNS THE MONEY?
Haggai 2:8 KJV
“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.”
There is this very terrible notion in the world and among believers about money. It is called the ownership mentality. It is a mentality that says “this is my money, i worked for it, I earned it, and it is mine! It is mine!! It is mine!!!” Nothing can be more damaging to a believer’s finances and future like such a mentality. Our text has clearly told us that the silver and the gold, or money is God’s. He said the silver is mine and the gold is mine, He has earned the right to say so for the following reasons:
i. He is the giver of breath that enables you to work and to come up with the resources in the first place.
ii. He is the one who gives health and vitality for work. 3John1:2 says we can only prosper and be in health as our souls prosper. Your kidneys, lungs, pancreas, liver, digestive system all work perfectly without any contribution from you. So, who really owns the money?
iii. God alone has been the one who has protected you from the various attempts at your life; both the ones you know and will never know till we step into eternity. This explains why you can stay safe and make money.
iv. Your sanity had been God’s absolute responsibility, without which you would have gone bonkers by now, due to the many challenges everywhere. You are not much better than the mad people who run around naked, but for the grace and mercies of God upon your life.
v. The very favour that brought your job or business was made possible by God. There are many who suffer breakdown or failure at the verge of breakthrough every time. Some are more intelligent than you, yet have not been able to make sense with their lives. So, be humble.
I can confidently submit at this point that you own nothing; you are just a custodian of things here on earth. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. You are just a beneficiary of His magnanimity. You have no business holding back from Him when He asks you for things, it is not wisdom. He gave you some of what you have without your asking, now think of what more He would do for you when you obey Him in releasing your resources for kingdom purpose?
Receive grace to work with God in Jesus Name.
Action Points
i. Repent of ever resisting God’s request of you for anything whatsoever.
ii. Resolve and determine to become more responsive and liberal towards God’s work.
iii. Ask God to kill selfishness in your heart.
Prayer
-Lord please touch my heart with what touches your heart in Jesus Name.
-Deliver me from the spirit of stinginess and selfishness in Jesus Name.
-Lord I acknowledge you as the owner of all I have; you are my Jireh and Elshadai. And I thank you for entrusting me with your resources in Jesus Name.
Nugget
You own nothing; you are just a custodian of things here on earth because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.
