MONEY IS NOT THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
(1 Timothy 6:10 KJV)
“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
For decades and even centuries, the church was looked down on because of poverty due to a misconception and misunderstanding of the scripture above. The church believed that money was the root of all evil, and so we viewed rich people as evil, we made frantic effort to make money, all because of this wrong idea. The church degenerated financially till the world came up with a derogatory saying about the church, ” as poor as a church rat”. I have tried to place myself in the shoes of God, to know what it felt like for people to attach poverty to His church.
The truth is that money was and is not the root of all evil, but the love of money is. The love of money is caused by greed and selfishness. The love of money is a wrong relationship with money; when you love money you will serve it, lie for it, slave for it and even kill for it. Don’t forget that love is as strong as death, according to Song of Solomon 8:6. Ultimately, when you love money, you will not be able to love God, because you will not be able to serve God. You cannot serve God and mammon at the same time, you must despise one and honour the other.
The love of money ruined the ministry, calling and anointing of Judas Iscariot. The love of money did not allow Gehazi, the servant of Elisha to carry the quadruple portion of anointing from his master Elisha. The love of money will expose you to all manner of hurtful and harmful practices. There is a prostitute out there because of love for money and no love for God, the same goes for the armed robber, swindler, 419 persons, etc. So, at the foundation of every evil is the love for money.
God wants you to have money, but it will come by loving Him and not money. While the love of money is the root of all evil, the lack it is that mother of all calamities. That is why God wants you to be rich, but not by wickedness, but by the desire to good. Receive grace to make wealth today in Jesus Name.
Action Points
i. Search your heart for any trace of love for money, and ask God to uproot it from your life.
ii. Ask God to fill your heart with love for Him and His kingdom on earth.
Prayer
-Lord please rid my heart of every trace of emotional attachment to money in Jesus Name.
-Lord please help me to use money and not be used by money in Jesus Name.
-I declare that money is my slave and not my master in Jesus Name.
Nugget
You have love for money when you can do anything for it, when you can break your personal principles for it, and when you can disobey the word of God to acquire it.
