DO NOT QUENCH THE SPIRIT
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 KJV)
“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit.”
The bible had said that the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching the inward parts of the belly, (Proverbs 20:27), that presents the human spirit as a candle with a fire on it for light. This is not much different from how the HolySpirit is symbolized in the tabernacle, where He is presented as a golden lamp with seven candles, (Zechariah 4:1-6). Notice that after this candle had been described, God ended by saying “not by might, not by power but by my Spirit”.
So, if the spirit of man and the spirit of God is like candle, it then means that it can be quenched. The candle can be in a place without any fire on it, and what is the use of a candle without the fire on it? When we got born again our spirits were lighted with the fire from the Spirit of God and we became alive again unto God. That is actually how the born-again experience takes place but you now have the responsibility of making sure that the Spirit of God in you is not quenched or put out. That fire is meant to stay aflame for all times.
There are things that we do many times that disconnects us from the Spirit of God and quenches Him and His activities in our lives. Below are the following things never to do in order to stay aflame and they are all in our passage of the text today;
i). Live a life of joy and rejoicing.
Never permit anything to make you sad or depressed, always find a way to stay rejoicing. There comes a time when joy becomes a choice, and you must make a choice to be joyful.
ii). Maintain a consistent prayer devotion with God. The more you communicate and stay in tune with God, the more Of His Presence you will experience and in His presence is fullness of joy, where the Spirit cannot be quenched.
iii). Live in constant thanksgiving; Never be caught murmuring or complaining against God. Maintain the right attitude and everything will work for your good. Consistently live your life like this and you will constantly be in tune with the Holy Spirit in your life here on earth. Receive that grace in Jesus Name.
Action Points/Prayer
i. Thank God for today’s word.
ii. Read all over again.
iii. Pray all these three points into your life with thanksgiving.
iv. Talk to someone about Jesus today, and invite someone to the next service in your church.
Nugget
