THE WITNESSING SPIRIT OF TRUTH
1 John 5:6 KJV
“This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth”.
One way the Holy Spirit provides leadership for us is by witnessing to us. A witness is someone who gives an evidence after seeing or hearing something. The Holy Spirit gets to bear witness with our spirits about a thing or decision, He gets to witness for/or against it. When He witnesses for/or He’s in support a thing, it means that Heaven has cleared you on that matter and is backing you up over that matter in question. But when He witnesses against a thing, it means that God is not with you on that matter, it means that you are on your own as far as that matter is concerned, and it might also mean that there is danger ahead.
The witness comes by way of inner conviction and this conviction comes by way of God’s peace. When God gives you peace over a matter, it means He has your back on it. This peace of God is a peace that passes understanding, it is the kind of peace that thrives even in the midst of plenty of oppositions and seeming frustrations, it is a peace that persist even in the midst of danger and a bleak future. Remember that the ways of God are not the ways of man, so God does not judge as men do. Everyone could be against a move or a project you want to undertake but if God gives you inner peace about it, you are supposed to follow that peace and do what God wants you to do. Even if everyone is for the project and yet there has been a withdrawal of God’s peace from your heart over the matter, you are supposed to simply hands off the matter or project.
All of this is because the Spirit is truth, He witnesses only the truth. God cannot lie; you can bank on the convictions of the Holy Spirit. A typical example is found in one of Paul’s journeys in the book of Acts 16:6-7; “Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, after they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not”. You can see that at one instance, they were forbidden of the Holy Spirit and at another instance they were not permitted or allowed. How did they know this? By checking God’s peace in their spirits.
When the withdrawal of God’s peace got really intense, you could say they were forbidden at that point. And when there is an absence of God’s peace, you could also say they were not allowed to minister there. One is more intense than the other. Receive grace today to be led by the witnessing of the Spirit of truth in Jesus Name.
