THE SPIRIT OF COUNSEL
Isaiah 11:1-2 KJV
“And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord”.
Of all the dimensions of the Holy Spirit in our lives, it seems to be that the spirit of counsel is the most important of them all, because counsel is advice given especially as a result of consultation. Counsel can be very expensive; it can be a very sensitive commodity. Reason being that you have to really let out your entire ‘belly’ by giving out intimate details before your counselor; and at the end you stand a huge risk of not getting the right counsel.
The Bible says that counsel in the heart of a man is as deep waters, Proverbs 20:5. So counsel is not a surface material at all, it will task you to the deepest part of your being. Therefore, for the spirit of counsel to be resident in your life is a very huge advantage. The Holy Spirit is a problem solver, He is a wisdom giver as well as a very sound, skilled and accurate adviser. Amongst the best of counselors, the Holy Spirit ranks first. His counsel is tailor-made for you; it is target specific without any kind of guess work whatsoever.
In summary, counsel is a spirit. It is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit, and it comes precisely without any kind of mistake. Counsel can be prophetic and with deep consequences. I am reminded of king David’s closest counselor right now, who was Ahitophel. His counsel back then was like when a man heard from the oracles of God. His counsels were never wrong, he had the spirit of counsel in him and God gave him as a gift to David. If Ahitophel opened his mouth, it would be a done deal. He spoke as though he was seeing the matter in question very clearly, and then spoke as he saw it. (2 Samuel 16:23).
Counsel can be very deep, and the spirit of counsel can be that very precise. I pray for grace for us to covet the manifestation of this spirit in our lives in Jesus Name.
Action Points
i. Covet the manifestation of the spirit of counsel in your life.
ii. Ask the Holy Spirit to flow freely in the spirit of counsel in your life.
iii. Engage the Holy Spirit in your moments of need, have a conversation with Him and apply for counsel.
Prayer
-Lord, I receive the activation of the spirit of counsel in my life in Jesus Name.
-Lord, dig a well of deep waters of counsel in my heart in Jesus Name.

Counsel is a spirit. It is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit, and it comes precise.
