BE YIELDED TO THE HOLY SPIRIT
Genesis 6:3 KJV
“And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years”.
Of all the many things to know and learn of the Holy Spirit, it is important that we know that the Holy Spirit is a very gentle Spirit. He is extremely sensitive and delicate in nature. The Holy Spirit does not speak so loudly to us, in fact it is said that His voice is a still, small voice. In training yourself to hear the voice of God, please know that the loudest voices you hear is never that of the Holy Spirit.
God from the beginning created man to be a free oral agent. So, man will have to choose or reject God, God will never force man to choose or serve Him. That is why the garden of Eden had the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, all so that man makes a choice for or against God. And here in our text, God made His position clear again when man’s thoughts became evil continually. God said “my spirit shall not always strive with man”. Meaning that His spirit will not contend, struggle, fight or force man; for man is just flesh. This statement implies something really powerful.
It simply means that the Holy Spirit will never force you to obey. The Holy Spirit will gently nudge you once or twice and that’s it. He will not arm twist you into doing what He wants you to do. So, it therefore behoves on you to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and to obey Him promptly, as He will not stay on any matter for longer than necessary. The Holy Spirit will speak and then go quiet, He will nudge and then withdraw, He will show you what to do, and then speak no further. When Noah released the dove to check if the waters had dried up from the earth, it came back with an olive branch or leaf in its mouth. But Noah was not satisfied, so he sent the dove out again, and the dove never returned. The dove is Symbolic of the Holy Spirit, and the refusal to return was indicative of the fact that the Holy Spirit already spoke, and He would not be forced to speak any further. It is therefore wisdom to be yielded to the Holy Spirit each time. Receive grace to yield and follow through with the Holy Spirit in Jesus Name.
