HOW TO KNOW YOUR PURPOSE

(John 1:1, 3-5, 9 KJV)
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”

Purpose is not your decision but your discovery, it was already determined and concluded before you came, so you can only discover it. However, you need some clues in order to make that discovery. Apart from being born again and accepting Jesus into your life as Lord and Saviour, there are very important clues and steps that you must take in order to discover your God-given and ordained purpose in life.

Step 1.
Receive the word of God.
Our text today has revealed that the word of God has been from the beginning. It also reveals that the word is God Himself, and that all things were made by the word of God. It does not exclude anything. This means that God at the beginning chose and decided to manifest first as the Word. The Word is God’s most preferred way of both manifesting and showing Himself in any given situation. As such, when we cry to Him for help, He would send His word to us for our healing and deliverance; Psalm 107:20. But most importantly, this same word of God is our guide to purpose and destiny as well.

Our text says it is the word that lights up every man that comes into the world, which means that we were all born in darkness due to the fall of man in Eden. We were to miss our way by default, due to the darkness in our spirits. So, God determined that each person will need to encounter His word in the course of our lives, so we can find our way to purpose and destiny. That was why David said “the entrance of your word gives light”, Psalm 119:130. He also said that the word of God is a lamp to his feet and a light to his path” – Psalm 119:105. And Isaiah said we will be able to arise and shine when our word comes, Isaiah 60:1. He was referring to God’s specific word to an individual. If you must find your purpose then the word of God must dwell in you richly; Colossians 3:15.
