FOLLOWING ABRAHAM’S EXAMPLE
(Isaiah 51:1-2 KJV)
“Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the Lord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.”
I really love the scriptures that says “be ye followers of them who through faith and patience obtained the promises”, (Hebrews 6:12).
The day I made this discovery about God and the bible, I received a deliverance, because it was then I knew that God wasn’t expecting me to do anything different from what those gone ahead of me in the scriptures have done. The bible was written to enable us have models and examples to follow.
Abraham is one of the biggest examples of scripture that cannot be ignored for any reason. Abraham is our example for the following reasons:
a. He was an example of absolute faith in God.
-See how he “foolishly” followed God in faith when God asked him to leave his father’s house to a land he knew nothing about, nor even how to get there.
b. Abraham was an example of obedience to God.
-Even when it hurts so much, Abraham would still obey God. The example of his obedience that stands out for me was his obedience in the matter of circumcision of all the males in his family including himself. I have always wondered what he was thinking when he decided to cut off his own foreskin at the age of ninety-nine. How did he hear God, how did he relate with God, how was he so sure it was God leading him to do all these things considering the risks involved?
c. Abraham was an example of trust in God.
It takes trust to keep following God when you no longer understand Him nor see any light at the end of the tunnel. It took trust for him to agree to sacrificing Isaac when he knew Isaac could be lost for life. That is a little more than faith, it is called trust.
Little wonder the bible said that Abraham was blessed in all things, Genesis 24:1. And that is why he remains the rock from where we were hewed. He has become an example for the church and the world today.
Action Points/Prayer
-Ask the Lord to help you follow, trust and obey Him just like Abraham did.
Nugget
To be willing to sacrifice what you know you could lose for life takes a little more than faith; it takes TRUST – Trust God like our father of faith, Abraham.
