Marriage 101
HARMONIOUS MARTAL COEXISTENCE
(Matthew 7:3-5 KJV)
“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
Someone said that we do not need any marriage seminars and that all we needed was the word of God. He affirmed that the word would solve any problems there are, and that if we obeyed the word as stated in scriptures, we wouldn’t need any special seminars. And I totally agree with him. It is just that it takes a special grace of God along the lines of marital grace for a person to discover the revelation in some scriptures with regards to marriage and marital life.
We all have read the text again and again in our Christian lives, but it would take the help of the Holy Spirit to know that it would make sense in our marital lives as well. When the bible says “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”; people hardly take their minds to marriage. Such that a married man keeps reading these verses and gets to treat everyone so nicely except his wife, all because in his mind he never connected this word with his marital life. Today I want to bring out one more insight of this scripture as it relates to our marital lives.
3. Focus On Dealing With Your Own Wrongs Than That Of Your Spouse. (Matthew 7:3-5)
In marriage things work better when each party works on their own faults and weaknesses, rather than demand that their partners would first change. Don’t bother yourself noticing every wrong in your spouse when you have not first dealt with yours. Your change will put pressure on your spouse to inevitably change. In many cases, for every mote or speck you see in your spouse’s eyes there is a corresponding beam in yours. Many times, you are the reason your spouse is the way they are now. Your negative life had made them become negative. So, mind your own fault, deal with your issues and pray for your spouse and God will intervene. It doesn’t always have to be done by talking, quarreling and fighting.
Action Points
i. Take account of all the complaints of your spouse and begin to do something about them now.
ii. Endeavour to make sure that your spouse does not complain about an issue for up to two times.
Prayer
-Lord I receive the humility to recognize and accept my wrongs today in Jesus Name.
-Father please grant me the wisdom to make my marriage a heaven on earth experience for my spouse in Jesus Name.
Nugget
Don’t bother yourself noticing every wrong in your spouse when you have not first dealt with yours. Your change will put pressure on your spouse to inevitably change.
